April (18th – 29th) – Sharon & Chambersburg, PA –
I spent some time active duty USAF (United States Air Force) reservist. This means that I was enlisted in the USAF part-time for 6 years. In that time I drilled (reported to work) at 2 different locations. One of those locations was in Warren, Ohio. You may be asking yourself why did I choose Pennsylvania. It was because of restrictions for working in 1 state for 30 days or more. I needed to stay clear of Ohio due to some work requirements that will come up at the end of the year. Sharon was close enough to my family that I could drive to visit in a short amount of time. It has been 30+ years since I had been back to this area but driving to Sharon brought back some fond memories. My time in the base was a great experience with some great people. My time in the reserves served as a catalyst to my desire to travel and meet new people.
Something interesting happened while visiting Sharon, first I stayed in a great Airbnb, with Audrey that felt like staying with family. Audrey gave me space and her home was just what I needed at this time in my journey. If you are ever in Sharon give it a try. Growing up I would hear tales of girls going to Pennsylvania to get prom or formal attire. I was not your typical girly girl and did not enjoy shopping one bit, so the idea of driving an hour or so to go check out dresses never appealed to me. I thought to each its own and wished those who did the best and never gave it a second thought. Who knew that 40+ years later I would be within minutes of the famous store and the birthplace of Quaker Steak & Lube. I ate at a great Thai place as well, the Elephant 8 with a great story and history about the owner.
While visiting Sharon I found my way to a Camper World and was inspired for what I am sure will be part of my future. The Puma Camping Edition Single Axle 121RKCE is a perfect next step in my evolution as a nomad. Angeline is more than capable of handling this. This year we will scope out camp grounds as part of our travels. So exciited for 2027 but can’t wait to share what is in store for me this year. I am usually very much going with the flow when I travel but this year I have a few special trips that will keep me on a strict schedule in May and June, but there is definitely room from some flexibility in July and August.
In Chambersburg I stayed at another Airbnb, a private walkout apartment that was absolutely enchanting. I experienced some wonderous sunsets. It was a great getaway. Outside of the hustle and bustle of a big city but close to an adorable downtown area. I am not a shopper but I do appreciate a nice downtown with unique shops and restaurants. Pennsylvania wasn’t initially on my roadmap but provided a very peaceful and relaxing time.
