April (11 – 18) – Nyack, NY
Even though I am a nomad I have a storage facility that I store some possessions (very few) after selling my home. A lot of it was my youngest child’s possessions, even though after she left for college she essentially did not come back home. I have 2 children and both are living their lives to the fullest and I couldn’t be more proud. It is a goal I have to reduce the amount in storage every year since its establishment in 2023. The ultimate goal is not have a need for a storage facility at all by mid 2027. I decided I would kill 2 birds with 1 stone and take my daughter some belongings from storage and see her new place in NY. I decided I would visit a more scenic area and chose Nyack on a whim. It was close to water and was walkable and a bit of a small town feel. Although there are opportunities for a lot of tourist traffic in this town I find that visiting places right before the season begins works out to my favor. It can be cold or a bit chilly when I visit, but if the sun is shining it makes all things right, in my world that is. I stayed at the Hotel Nyack – JDV by Hyatt for seven days. It was beautiful, walkable, and surrounded by water. Once again I got a deal for my week stay through my Sundance Vacations vacation package.
TIP: Generally if you visit a place and stay at a location that charge resort fees, those fees won’t be charged when it is before the season begins. My stay in Nyack would have been 175.00 more had I visited a month later.
While there I visited a wonderful soul food restaurant in the quaint downtown and because it was considered off-season parking was plentiful and free. It was great food was flavorful and very large portions. I generally will get meals as I am traveling and they are able to sustain me for about 3 days. When I am staying in hotel like accommodations free breakfast helps with the budgeting. I love finding unique dining experiences as I travel and “My Father’s House” in Nyack, NY did not disappoint. I had a smothered porkchop, rice, and collard greens. Fed me for 4 days.

I stated before that I rarely travel with a bunch of laundry to do. If the hotel or condo I am living in for the week doesn’t have laundry facilities I will google laundromats near me and will drive by the locations to get a feel for the area and once I find a match, I will settle in for about 2 hours to get things done. While in Nyack my research brought me to the location you see below. The laundromat was in a neighboring town called Congress and 2 doors down was my favorite coffee shop Dunkin’s and across the street the featured picture showed a view from the window of the laundromat. Remember on your travels to slow down and be present for every interaction and beautiful moment such as this. Wow, I can’t imaging not appreciating the opportunity to do laundry while having a beautiful lake within a short walk and watching the sunset. I love my life!!!

Nyack and the surrounding cities gave me that mid-west vibe and not your typical NY city feel.
TIP: Beware if you are wanting to visit NY city there are plenty of unavoidable tolls. It cost me $50.00 total in tolls to travel 80 miles roundtrip to see my daughter in Brooklyn. Check various routes, tolls are unavoidable but you can find less expensive ones but traffic may be an issue. They accept EZ Pass transponders, however my vehicle has a built-in transponder and I use the subscription to cover most tolls in virtually every State in the US.
